The Orbera Instragastric Balloon System provides an option for patients who have struggled to lose weight but cannot or do not want to have bariatric surgery.
The Orbera system includes a lightweight and durable balloon that is designed to fit your stomach and take up space. This helps you feel full and encourages portion control.
How does it work?
This simple procedure usually only takes 20 to 30 minutes and most people are able to go home the same day. In this procedure, the physician places a deflated balloon through your mouth and into your stomach. Once the balloon is in place, the physician fills it with a saline solution so it takes up space and helps make you feel full.
The balloon stays in your stomach for six months. You will work with your doctor and other healthcare professionals to develop a diet and exercise program to fit your specific needs.
After six months, the balloon is deflated and removed.
Is the Orbera system right for me?
The system is designed to help adults with a body mass index (BMI) between 30 and 40. If you qualify for this procedure, you must participate in a 12-month program that includes the placement of the balloon and a healthy diet and exercise plan. You may not lose any weight if you do not follow the diet and exercise plan.
Factors such as your health and weight loss goals will determine if you are a qualified candidate for the Orbera system. Attend a free educational seminar to learn more about the benefits and possible risks of the bariatric procedures available at Manatee Weight Loss Center.
